2 Active Directory : Overview  Active Directory is basically a database of all users and computers at Knox County Schools It will be an organized list of students, teachers, staff, and parents in the school district It is a list of hardware resources available to users  Servers  Computers  Will work with Windows and Macintosh  Networked Printers  Benefit of Using Active Directory Single-Sign On For Many Applications Can Sign On At All Schools Increased Security

3 Active Directory Organization Basics  One District Domain – Knox County Schools  Centralized Management User Accounts Servers Computers Printers  Organizational Unit (OU) At School Site Allows Local Administrator to Manage Add Local Groups Add Computers Add Printers

4 Active Directory : Features  Group Policies Powerful Feature Control User And Computer Settings Can Be Applied To Student Groups To Manage Computer Use  Delegated Control Of OU School Site Manages OU Groups of Users And Computers Local School OU Admins Have Full Control  Search Resources Printers added to Active Directory Can Be Found On Listing And Connected To Computers

5 End Notes  Active Directory Has Been Implemented Successfully By Many Other School Districts Nationwide  Network Team Will Need List of Software Used At Each School That Is Not Already Listed On The Survey
