Chapter 6 and 7 Review Do Now Answer the following questions: 1. What was a Robber Baron? Name 2 of them. 2. Explain in 3-5 sentences how railroads united the nation 3. Explain the concepts of vertical and horizontal integration. 4. What is a monopoly?

Chapter 6 Big Ideas - At the end of the 19 th century, natural resources, creative ideas and growing markets fueled an industrial boom. - The growth and consolidation of railroads benefited the nation, but also led to corruption and required government regulation. -The expansion of industry resulted in the growth of big business and prompted laborers to form unions to better their lives.

Chapter 7 Big Ideas -Immigration from Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and Mexico reached a new high in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries. (New Immigrants) -The rapid growth of cities forced people to contend with problems of housing, transportation, water and sanitation. - Local and political corruption in the 19 th century led to calls for reform. (political machines, grafting, patronage vs. merit system)

Charades/Taboo Here are the rules: split into even teams Each team will select a player to go Each player will be given a word or phrase related to chapters 6 and 7 Each player then has one minute to get their team to guess it. If they cannot other teams may steal. players may only speak by giving 1- 3 word clues and you may only speak 3 times. If you violate this you lose your turn Other than speaking players must get the team to answer by acting it out or drawing on the board Pictionary style Players may ask for the help of one teammate to act out the answer if needed (that player may not guess) The winning team will receive 5 extra credit points on their test.
