7 EHEP Lab status New lab development in progress
IOP lab is being used for the time being Ar+CO2 (70:30), Argon, Isobutane, Freon (R134a) procured Gas mixing system exists Laminar flow table exists Required electronic modules (like Electronic rack, NIM Crate, HV module, Discriminator, Spectroscopic Amp, SCA, MCA, Pico-ammeter, Multi-meter etc.) procured One bakelite RPC detector is ready Studies on plastic scintillator detector is going on Experiments for Int. M.Sc. and Pre-doc student is going on in the present lab *

8 Components used for Bakelite RPC
30cm × 30cm Bakelite sheets Thickness of each plate : 3mm Gas gap between two plates : 2mm 4 edge pressures : 30cm × 8mm 5 button pressures of diameter 1cm(roughly) 2 nozzles of 1mm hole of thickness 2mm Components of a RPC module: Pick-up strips, edge spacers and gas nozzles, two graphite coated bakelite sheet *

9 Gluing of edge spacers, button spacers and gas nozzles on one bakelite sheet
*

10 Complete RPC module *

11 Circuit diagram for efficiency measurement
Block diagram for efficiency measurement Trigger (3F) : Sc01 x Sc03 x Sc02 4F : Trigger (3F) x Sc04 Efficiency : 4F/3F Experimental set-up for efficiency measurement *

12 3 signals in coincidence
Three scintillator signals in coincidence *

13 Efficiency Vs. voltage The efficiency reaches a plateau region at nearly 100% from 1500 V onwards, when measured on the PMT side On the other side the efficiency reaches >90% at little higher voltage Efficiency of Sc-04 as a function of the applied voltage *

14 Data Logger Hardware Variation of t, p and RH with time *

15 Assembled GEM *

16 Work done so far …… Bakelite resistive plate chamber has been fabricated using local materials Surface resistivity of the graphite coating has been measured and the uniformity is checked Four plastic scintillator detectors have been tested systematically Their efficiencies have been measured using Co60 gamma source Gamma ray intensity varies with 1/r2 Cosmic ray coincidence has been done 2-fold and 3-fold coincidences have been found to be around 1 per min per cm2 The velocity of the cosmic ray muon has been found to be 2.53 x 108 m/s A new technique has been developed for gamma ray and cosmic ray spectroscopy without using single channel analyzer (SCA) or multi channel analyzer (MCA) A Data logger to monitor and record the ambient parameters such as temperature, relative humidity and pressure has been developed One 10cm X 10cm triple GEM detector has been assembled *
