Puberty The stage of growth and development at which males and females become physically able to reproduce. –Males begin between 10-14 –Females begin between 8-13

Reproduction The process of producing offspring

Adolescence Referring to the entire stage of life between childhood and adulthood; also know as the teen years

Endocrine system A group of glands that manufactures and secrets hormones directly into the bloodstream

Hormones Messengers that trigger and regulate many body processes including puberty –Male-testosterone –Female-estrogen and progesterone

Pituitary gland Endocrine gland that secretes hormones that trigger puberty; located at the base of the brain

Gonads Endocrine gland that secretes hormones and produce sex cells: also known as sex gland –Male-testes; produce sperm and testosterone –Female-ovaries; produce egg (ovum), estrogen, and progesterone
