Lesson 2 Electricity and Magnetism
2
Vocabulary Conductor Insulator
3
Discussion Starters An electric charge in motion is an electric current. In order for an electric current to flow, a circuit must be closed. Some materials allow electric charge to move more easily through them than other materials.
4
Questions What is a closed circuit? What happens to an electric current at a switch? How does a resistor help an electric heater work? What is the difference between an insulator and a conductor? What causes some materials to be good insulators of electricity?
5
Questions How many paths are in a parallel circuit? How are a parallel and a series circuit similar? Could a relay race be used as a good model for a parallel or a series circuit? Explain. What is the main difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit? Why are most homes wired in a parallel circuit rather than a series circuit? Make a drawing of a parallel circuit that has light bulbs on several little loops. On one of the little loops, draw the light bulbs connected in a series circuit.
