Development As permanent villages developed communities became more complex. New social functions and interactions allowed for a richer existence. New forms of culture and government developed as a result.

Surpluses Surpluses are extra output of production. Surpluses mean that you have met your need and you have extra to trade, sell or save. This created opportunities for a more diverse economy.

Specialization Specialization is the act of focusing all your energy on one skill, i.e. being a cloth weaver. In this economic system, the cloth weaver and the farmer can specialize in their craft and trade with each other to meet their needs. This develops a new social structure.

Farmers Grain production Meat production Linen production ( flax, cotton, wool)

Priests Those who interpreted natural events and tried to control their environment through religious ceremony.

Catal Huyuk A population of about 5000 inhabitants around the year of 7000 B.C. Specialized economy with artisans, farmers, government and priests. Signs of fortification.
