8. Financial Aide How Can I Pay for and Who Will Pay for My Postsecondary Education?

Facts about Financial Aide Out of the financial aide pie:  The federal government gave out 74% of the aide in the form of grants, loans and other aide.  Colleges gave out 17% of the aide in the form of scholarships.  State government gave out 5% of the aide in grants and scholarships.  Privately funded and employer funded grants and scholarships accounted for 4% of total aide.

Last Year...  $132 Billion was awarded to students in the form of grants, work study funds and loan interest loans.  The average student received a little over $12400 last year.  More than six out of ten college students receive some sort of financial aide.  Nearly one-half of the four year college students attend a college where the fees are less then $9936 per year and even less with awarded aide.
