Canada’s Population Distribution and Density March 6, 2015

Review  Population distribution  Ecumene  Population density

Construction of a Bar Graph

Calculating Population Density  Number of people / area of country = people/km 2

High Density: India  Area: 3 287 263 km2  Population; 1 134 403 000  Urban cities in India are densely populated.  High population density means that many farms are too small to allow rural families to achieve a decent standard of living.

Moderate Density: Egypt  Area: 1 000 250 km2  Population 72 850 000  Deserts cover large areas of Egypt, so the population is not evenly distributed  Instead it is concentrated in the valley and the delta of the Nile River

Low Density: Australia  Area: 7 682 300 km2  Population: 20 310 000  Most of the north is tropical rain forest where few people live

Activity: Canada’s Population Density  Worksheet:  1. Create a bar graph  2. Answer the questions  3. Calculate the population densities and classify the countries as high, moderate or low
