Trojan Pride on the Sunny Side Writing ■ There are extensive opportunities for students to write in Social Studies/Language Arts, as well as other subject areas. ■ Lucy Calkins and Write from the Beginning – Thinking Maps ■ We will assess on three types of writing: ■ Personal Narrative ■ Informative ■ Persuasive/Argument

Trojan Pride on the Sunny Side Accelerated Reader-AR ■ All 5 th Grade students will be participating in the AR program this year. ■ AR consists of reading books and taking short comprehension tests on the computer. ■ Each month we will conference individually with students to update their AR Goal. ■ We would like students reading at their “ just right ” book level and to achieve 80% or higher on tests. ■ Your child can test on books read aloud by a parent or teacher to help them attain their goals.

9. Trojan Pride on the Sunny Side ■ Typically 10 AR points per month – 100/year ■ 20 minutes of reading each night There will be an ice cream sundae party in early June for students who achieve their individual reading goal! Goals
