Mistake Proofing Condition Selection by Operators Cameron K. Hagan Process Engineer SKC inc.
2
2 page What is the problem with how it was done? 1.Conditions were stored in Excel Files. Not secure If Engineer forgets to password protect, anyone could change Operators could click on wrong file and not notice if names were similar 2.Multiple conditions were listed in each Excel file. Error for an operator to accidently select or print the wrong condition due to formatting or slip of the finger 3.Multiple copies could exist Above Left: Navigating folder to find a condition Above Right: Navigating the excel file to find the correct condition based on size

3 page How SKC has corrected the issue Sharepoint and InfoPath are the solution. The conditions now rest inside Sharepoint under the Slitting site where the operators already have read privileges There is both a link on the side bar and on the bottom of the operator’s department page to get to the Slitting Condition Sheets list. Above: Navigation to the Condition Sheets have been simplified. As show above, highlighting over each column header will allow the operator to open a dropdown menu like the one shown. By selecting which slitter the operator is at, it will filter down the available condition selections. As the operator goes left to right, filtering by Title, Thickness, Width, Length, and Core Size, the operator will have exactly 1 condition sheet to choose from. The exact condition they need. Then the operator clicks on the blue hyperlink under the Title column to pull up the condition. Also available to those that have permission (Engineer) is Version history on the far right. Operators are not able to see the past versions.

4 page Above: The InfoPath form above is loaded on Sharepoint that anyone with permissions to do so can create a condition sheet for the operators. This keeps every new condition consistent as time progresses. Additional mistake proofing: getting closer to fool proof. Above: The final condition sheet. After the operators open the form, a pop up dialog with the full condition opens. The operator will then just click the print this page tab to pull up the computer print dialog to print the condition selected.
