Who? Students work in teams of 4 – 5 Teams are assigned Roles are not assigned

What? Students create a new technology to solve a problem Impact can vary: Global National State Cultural Must be something that doesn’t exist

When & Where? During the first unit of course Done completely in class Completed in one 90 minute class Presentations in the following class

Why? Students are: Up and moving Using their hands Problem solving Collaborating Communicating Being creative Learning CS can help them have an impact on their world

What is required? Students must: Develop an original idea for a new technology Create a model of their invention Use the materials provided Come up with a name for their invention Present their invention to the class

Material Examples Paper plates Plastic cups Clothespins File folders Yarn/String Sponges Straws Plastic utensils Rubber Bands Erasers Transparency film Labels Skewers Zip ties Paper bowls Pipe cleaners Index cards Paper clips Stickers Googly eyes Foam sheets Almost anything from Dollar Tree Each group receives a manila envelope with 18 – 20 different types of materials Extra materials are available for students to use Tape, glue and staples do not count as a material

Rubric Students are always required to dress professionally when they present.
