Joint Information Systems Committee Why Learning & Teaching Innovation Grants? To help allow new and innovative ideas to filter through from the community that do not fit conveniently within a traditional JISC call for proposals. Lightweight initial application process for institutions looking to bid, FAIL-FAST. Particularly suitable for smaller projects.

Round 2 (Aug 08) 2 projects Total: £110,413 Round 3 (Jan 09) 5 projects Total: £308,113 Round 4 (May 09) 5 funded Total: £260,519 Round 5 (Feb 10) 5 funded Total: £247,385

Joint Information Systems Committee 18/10/2015 | slide 5 Learning & Teaching Innovation Grants: Bidding Process, important dates Call announced 29 th September 2010 Deadline for submission of proposals is noon UK time on Tuesday 9th November 2010. Projects selected for second round will be notified after Panel on 22 nd November Second round submission deadline is noon UK time on Monday13 th December 2010 Final selection will take place after a Panel Monday 10 th January 2011

Joint Information Systems Committee 18/10/2015 | slide 6 Learning & Teaching Innovation Grants: Initial Bidding Process(i) The initial submission document is lightweight with strict word limits to speed the writing and reading of bids. This cuts down on time invested by bidders where bids outweigh funds by about 7:1 Due to the large number of bids expected there will be minimal feedback on unsuccessful bids. Initial submissions using the template to ELEARNING- BIDS@jisc.ac.uk will get confirmation email, If you do not get this email confirmation, please get in touch with e.lathwood@jisc.ac.uk. Does the project fit the scope of this programme? Does the project demonstrate the potential of their project to improve or inform knowledge/practice in the wider Further Education community? Is this a realistic proposal given the timescale and resources available? 18/10/2015 | slide 7

A: - unique or pioneering – something that has not been done previously. - could be considered to be a "high-risk" intervention. -using innovative technologies or practice to directly benefit learning or the learning process? Q:What institutional contribution is required, and how should this be evidenced? A: - Contribution should be proportional to the value to the college/ wider community. -Evidence should be maintained by the project and available on request. Q: What level of detail is required in the initial submission? A: The initial submission documentation is designed to reduce the burden of submitting, if you can’t briefly describe the project it probably isn’t suitable for LTIG.

Duplication of existing work, Ineligible use of funds, Benefits unclear, Isolation from topical developments, Lack of innovation, No demonstrable need, Lack of institutional support, Non Open standards, licence, interoperable, Technology driven without regard for pedagogy. We will put a link to an FAQ from the JISC call page.
