2 Our Mission ‘The excellence of North Warwickshire and Hinckley College will support the growth of economic prosperity and inclusion within the community it serves’

3 Strategic Aims To deliver a learning experience which is described as outstanding by College stakeholders To widen participation by engaging in positive action to enable access to education and training within the College’s local communities To develop innovative solutions to the training needs of employers

4 The College A large General Further Education College 2 main campuses – Hinckley/Nuneaton Sites in Atherstone, Bedworth, Bermuda, Polesworth 2,500 full-time students, 25,000 part-time students Students aged 14 – 90 1000 school children per week/mentoring

5 Priorities Recruit 3,000 full-time students – mostly 16- 19 Move Forward – ‘Grasping your chance to increase your knowledge and skills has always been the key to a brighter future’ Tailored, individualised support for people who have been made redundant or are at risk of redundancy

6 Priorities New Skills and Qualifications Gaming Training Health and Social Care Employability Skills Logistics Start Your Own Business Preparation for Educational Practice Childcare training

7 Priorities Retail Training Certificate for Security Guards/Security Practitioners Multi Skills Construction (Plastering, Tiling, P&D and Carpentry) Fork Lift Maintenance Engineer ECDL

8 Priorities Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEETS) On Track –ESF funded until December 2010 Funding at present for Coventry/Warks Trying to replicate for Leics 10 week programme for young people including teenage mothers Includes Personal & Social Development and Vocational Tasters

9 Priorities Entry to Employment LSC funded – Generic General Course, Entry to Uniformed Services 16 week programme which includes Employability Skills, Maths/English and a Work Placement

10 Priorities Redundancy Support Employability Skills Project 4 week programme for people 18 years+ providing: A literacy or numeracy qualification An up-to-date CV An individual learner progression plan identifying: goals, progression etc

11 Priorities Knowledge of where/how to identify employment opportunities Possible course/training progression opportunities identified Improved confidence

12 Priorities ESF Response to Redundancy – Leicestershire 180 places in Leicestershire until December 2010 Client Groups People under notice of redundancy People who have recently been made redundant Unemployed people who, with sufficient training, could reasonably be expected to gain employment Training needs to meet the requirements of the sector/labour market but does not need to be accredited

13 Priorities Higher Education 25+ courses 400 students – many part-time in the workplace Dedicated HE centre Art & Media based at Hinckley New Foundation Degree in Interior Design based at Hinckley College

14 Priorities CHOICES Short courses aimed at adults with learning difficulties and disabilities Reading and Writing Money Skills for Everyday Use Number Skills Speaking and Listening Electronic Office Practices Basic Computing

15 Information, Advice and Guidance Dedicated team of all age guidance advisers Qualified to level 4 in IAG Able to provide impartial guidance Provide training on interview techniques, CV writing, electronic and paper applications, improving confidence and individual career planning Support continues after students have left College
