Historical Facts 1.} The Art Institute of New York City began operation with its first class in 1980 as The New York Restaurant School. 2.} On May 1, 1995, the Board of Regents of the State of New York granted The New York Restaurant School a charter to confer an Associate of Occupational Studies (A.O.S.) degree. 3.} One year later, on July 31, 1996, The Art Institutes, a subsidiary of Education Management Corporation, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, acquired The New York Restaurant School. Admission Requirements 1.Complete the application form. 2.Schedule a personal interview with an Admissions Representative. 3.Provide official high school transcripts or GED scores and/or transcripts from any college previously attended. 4.Complete a 150-word entrance essay. Application Fee (5) $50.00 Every applicant must provide acceptable proof of high school graduation and/or a GED certificate with scores, or the equivalent for international students (or a college transcript if the student has graduated with a bachelor's degree or higher). Applicants who have been home schooled will be required to provide proof of a GED. If the applicant has not yet graduated from high school, then he or she must provide the most recent partial transcript in order to be evaluated for early acceptance.
