2 Imperative and Exclamatory Sentences

3 Imperative Sentences An imperative sentence gives a command or makes a request. Steer the boat. It usually begins with a verb and ends with a period. The subject (you) is not shown.

4 Exclamatory Sentences
An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling or surprise. The river is wide! What a trip this is! It ends with an exclamation mark.

5 Interjection Interjections also show strong feeling and ends with an exclamation mark. An interjection is a word or group of words, not a complete sentence. Amazing! Ouch!

6 Review An imperative sentence gives a command or makes a request.
An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling or surprise. It ends with an exclamation mark. An interjection also shows strong feeling or surprise, but it is not a complete sentence.

7 Decide whether the sentence is imperative or exclamatory.

8 Practice Look at the top of that skyscraper. That’s one amazingly tall building! Please take my photograph there. Wow! I’ve never been in a city this huge! Don’t go too close to the edge.
