U.S. Symbols Written by: Mrs. Catron’s 1st Grade Class

2 United States of America (USA) Flag
This is the flag of the United States. It is a symbol of the U.S. It has 50 stars. One for each of the 50 states. It has red and white stripes. The 13 stripes stand for the original 13 colonies. The flag is red, white, and blue. The flag stands for our freedom. It helps us remember soldiers who have fought and died for our freedom.

3 Pledge to the flag “Pledge of Allegiance”
I pledge allegiance To the flag Of the United States of America. And to the Republic For which it stands One nation Under God With liberty and justice for all.

4 The American Bald Eagle
The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. The bald eagle is one of the symbols of the United States. He is also a symbol of our freedom.

5 The Liberty Bell The Liberty Bell is in Pennsylvania (one of our states). When the bell was tested, it cracked. During one U.S. war, the bell was hidden so it would not be used to make bullets. It was rung on special days.

6 The Statue of Liberty The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France. It is made of copper. It was built in parts and brought across the sea on a ship. It stands in New York Harbor It represents our freedom and democracy (free to vote and choose their leaders.)

8 The Washington Monument
The Washington monument was built to honor our first President (George Washington). It is very tall. It is located in our nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C.

9 The White House The President of the U.S. (George Bush) lives and works here. His office is called the “Oval Office.” There are very pretty trees around the White House.
