7 Newpapers  Don’t just look in the SITUATIONS VACANT  Read the ADVERTS – they give a good source of contacts for speculative letters and phone calls

8 Yellow pages  Don’t just turn to the section you require. Look at the CLASSIFICATION INDEX at the back. It gives over 30 pages of business categories that can help you decide on what jobs you apply for Don’t just stick to the large adverts – small companies need staff just as much as their larger competitors

9 Thomson’s Local  Use the COMMUNITY PAGES for ideas.  Remember VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS – This type of work could lead to a job and is a good way of developing your experience – Looks good on your CV too !

10 Agencies  For best results, consider REGISTERING with several agencies, remember – a temporary job can sometimes lead to permanent work.

11 Careers Office & Adult Guidance  Although the Careers Office is for under 18’s, They also provide guidance for adults. Specialist help is available together with advice on training and career changes. To see them, arrange an appointment through your local jobcentre

12 Word of Mouth  Make this work for you – but don’t be too pushy  Remember to keep reminding FRIENDS/RELATIVES etc. that you are keen to get back to work.  Explain –  HOW they can help;  WHAT you are looking for;  WHAT your specific SKILLS are.

14 The Internet  You can access the Jobcentre Plus websites at:  www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk Or  www.direct.gov.uk www.direct.gov.uk  These sites contain full details of all Jobcentre Plus vacancies.  Utilise the internet to search alternative “Job Sites” – details of other sites are available - Ask a member of staff for more details

16 Friends Reunited  Another useful website to access jobs through... www.friendsreunitedjobs.co.uk With over 200000 jobs live on their jobs board

17 Professional & Trade Journals  Specialises in specific types of work and will advertise jobs in that particular field – for example  Look in ‘Construction News’ for jobs in, and related to, the Building and Construction Industry

18 Business Directories  ‘Kelly’s Business Directory’ – Gives information about companies based in the UK.  This can also be accessed via the Internet at:  www.kellysearch.com
