Next major attempt to limit the monarch’s power was in 1688 King James II was disliked  he was trying to re-establish Catholicism in England and had close ties with France With the support of English Parliamentarians, William III and his wife Mary II took the throne December 16, 1689  English Bill of Rights passed in Parliament
