Set up Cornell Notes (New Section) Announcements
2
By end of class today, you will be able to: Accurately discuss different types of chemical reactions. Discuss the process and predict the products of chemical reactions through a balanced chemical equation (focusing on single and double replacement reactions).
3
Using the left page from Friday, use the vocabulary words you wrote down to complete the following task: Write one “clue” that you can use to predict each of the 5 types of chemical reactions. Each sentence should answer the question “how can I tell it’s a __________ reaction?”
4
What are the 5 types of chemical reactions?
5
Ionic Vs Covalent! Review: How do we write formulas for ionic compounds from charged ions?
6
Why would we need to predict the products of chemical reactions? The number of elements and/or compounds reacting is a good indicator of possible reaction type and thus possible products.
7
On a left page (landscape), we will create a chart for you to organize how to predict products
8
For single replacement reactions
9
C 2 H 8 + O 2 Li + O 2 Zn + AgNO 3 CaI 2 + Hg(NO 3 ) 2 Al + Cl 2 C 2 H 2 + O 2 Ag + HCl MgCl 2 Pb + AgNO 3 CaCl 2 + Pb(NO 3 ) 2
10
Side 1: How are the five types of chemical reactions different from one another? What process can we take to predict the products of a chemical reaction? Side 2: Predict the products of the following chemical reaction Al + H 2 SO 4
11
When finished with exit slip, pick up your independent practice.
