2 DBAEDBAEDBAEDBAE DBAEDBAE What is Discipline-Based Art Education? DBAE is a curriculum designed to help students better understand the role fine art plays in societies. DBAE supports accurate appreciation of the historical importance of art in our world DBAE encourages a richer insight to enable interpretation and teaches questioning skills as well as higher-order thinking strategies. DBAE gives students the opportunity to use art materials to creatively make and talk about their own ideas.

Paul Getty Foundation Getty Trust Fund worked through several regional public institutes in the 1980’s to professionally support and train teachers. DBAE applied in public schools proved that the arts offer a more complete educational experience, although should be adjusted to best serve each student’s individual needs.
