1. Teacher’s Corner News from Mrs. Jao’s Class Dates to Remember Curriculum Corner Reading: We are doing many different activities in Reading Centers and I am meeting with small groups to read and discuss books they are reading. Math: In Unit 4 we have been using different diagrams to solve story problems, exploring temperature, adding and subtracting two digit numbers, measuring and calculating the cost of items and making change. Writing: Most of the children have gone through the writing process to publish one or more books. All the second graders had a Publishing Party in November to celebrate all the wonderful writing they have been doing. Spelling: We have reviewed all the short vowel sounds and will start working on the long vowel patterns. Theme: We have been doing lots of experiments to learn the properties of solids and liquids. Next we will experience solid materials as pieces, grains and particles. We will also observe what happens when solids and water are mixed. Dec. 11Our class goes to PTA Book Fair Dec. 15 PTA Winter Wonderland Dec. 19 Report cards sent home Dec. 20 Early Dismissal 11:00. Dec. 21 – Jan. 6 Winter Break Each day is filled with many exciting things to learn and do and the time continues to fly by very fast. We have already finished 67 days of second grade. We have started featuring one student each week in our Star of the Week program. I will send home a letter and posters for your child when it is his/her special week. At the end of the week your child will receive an envelope of compliments from his/her classmates. A special thanks to Miki Chang, our room mother, for arranging the diablo demonstration on Nov. 21. The children really enjoyed learning new skills and tricks. I hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable Winter Break and best wishes in the new year.
