ALEPH version 19.01/20.01 Systems Librarian Updates South Dakota Library Network 1200 University, Unit 9672 Spearfish, SD 57799 www.sdln.net © South Dakota Library Network, 2010 ©Ex Libris (USA), 2009 Modified for SDLN Version 19.01/20.01

Admin tab – Default tree circ.ini 2 GUI-Circulation - It is now possible to choose the first branch that will be shown when the Admin tab is clicked A new variable has been added to the circ.ini file: DefaultTree. This variable is placed under the [CircAdminTree] section. The possible values are: B (booking), C (list of courses), J (file list), A (batch log), Q (batch queue), D (print daemon) The default value is B (Booking). For instance, in order to have List of Courses displayed first when you go to Admin tab, the [CircAdmin Tree] section in circ.ini will look like: [CircAdminTree] DefaultTree=C

Fast Patron Registration Name fields 3 Fast Patron Registration The Last Name and First Name fields of the Fast Patron Registration Form have been united into a single Name field.

Audio warnings Return of item on hold 4 In addition to the events that can have audio warnings assigned to them, it is now possible to assign an audio warning to sound when an item that has been placed on hold is returned.

Audio warnings circ.ini 5 For the Loan and Return windows, you can set the system to assign audio warnings to program events by editing the circ.ini file under the [ErrorAction] section. To define an audio warning: 1.Make sure the sound you want to set is defined in Windows to produce an audio signal. For example, for Exclamation, select chimes.wav. 2. Check that you can hear sounds in your PC. 3. In circ/tab/circ.ini, in the [ErrorAction] section, type Y,S, at the end of the program event to which you want to assign an audio warning, together with the name of the sound you want. The syntax is: = For example: NoUser=Y,S,Exclamation

Audio warnings circ.ini 6 The following are the names of the program events for which you can define an audio warning: NoUser ItemRequested NoBorrower ItemTransfer LoanError LoanSuccess ReturnError ReturnSuccess UserError OnHold ItemError UserVerification ClaimReturn RemoteReturn LostReturn ReturnIllLend LoanDenied OnHoldReturn ReturnDenied

Change due date on multiple loans 7 You are now able to change the date on several loan items simultaneously. To change the date of several loans simultaneously, select the loans and click Change Date. This feature is available in the Loan List and Loan Session sections in the Patron tab.

Default Saxon version Alephcom.ini 8 Default Saxon Version The default Saxon version has been upgraded to Saxon8.jar. The change is done the alephcom.ini file: [PrintExecute] SaxonVersion=Saxon8.jar

Locally saving printouts Saveas.ini 9 Locally Saving Printouts It is now possible to locally save any printout that is processed by the GUI client (i.e. either printed or e-mailed). The file may be locally saved on the client side in a location that is configured in the alephcom\tab\saveas.ini file.

Table changes tab100 10 LATE-RET-FINE-WHEN-LOST May be set to either charge overdue charges when the item is declared lost or when, only if and when the item is checked in. RETURN-DURING-LOAN Controls the behavior of the system when trying to effect a loan for an item that is already on loan for another patron. AUTO-TRUNCATE-Z01-FIND The new ‘S’ option truncates the search term as the ‘Y’ option does, but the word is truncated as a full word. For example, TIT=Law will find "Law", "Law and apocalypse" and "Law and order", but it does not retrieve "Lawyer", "Lawn care for your home" or "Lawrence Alma-Tadema". PW-EXPIRY-WARNING Defines how many days before expiration the user will get a warning when logging into the system.

Table changes tab100 11 CHANGE-ITM-STS-LOAN Enables the blocking of item status changes if the item is on loan. It is relevant for both online and offline item updates. MATCH-Z30-ISSBD Can be used in for ignoring analytical links of bibrecord, made via item link (LKR type ANA and ITM), to serial items that were or will be bound. The system will ignore all analytical links, except links to Z30-ENUMERATION-A (volume) and Z30-CHRONOLOGICAL-I (year). UPD-SUBS-FROM-ORDER Supports the option in which updating various fields in the Vendor Information tab of the Serial Order Record affect the equivalent fields in the order's related subscription record. The relevant fields are: Vendor Code, Vendor Reference, Delivery Type, Subscription Start, and Subscription End Dates.

Table changes tab18.eng 12 A new Item Status column has been added as column 3 of this table. The new column enables cash charges to be sensitive also to the item status if the charge is related to an item.

Table changes tab34 13 You can now set a charging policy that is sensitive to item material type and call number range. The following has changed in the table’s structure and setup options: Call Number Type has been added as column 4. Use the hash sign ‘#’ in this column if the call number type should be disregarded The Call Number, which is defined now in column 5, can also be used to set a call number range. The following options therefore apply to this column: o Disregard the call number – set this column with a single hash sign (‘#’) o Set a policy for a specific call number – set this column with an exact call number o Set a policy for a range of call numbers. Specifying a range is done by using a # mark to separate the 'From Call Number' from 'To Call Number'. For example, "ABC#DEF" means from call number ABC to call number DEF Item Material Type has been added as column 7 of the table

Table changes tab17 14 Column 6 of this table has been enhanced to allow defining closing hours that are after midnight. In that case, the closing hour will be configured as the real hour +24. For example, if the library opens on Friday morning at 9 A.M. and closes at 2.A.M the following day, the tab17 line will be configured as: 17A ######## 05 O 0900 2600

Table changes tab16 15 The policy of using alternative due dates for requested items may be further refined by using the new column 28 in tab16. This column sets the threshold of requests after which the alternate due date will be used. The alternate due date will be used only if the item has more pending requests than the number set in this column.

Tables changes tab_z30 no longer in use 16 tab_z30 tab_z30 is no longer in use. Its functionality is now handled by the new library tables: tab_loader and tab_loader_def. Both new tables are consulted by the system when the following loaders services are activated: Advanced Generic Vendor Records Loader (file-90) Load OCLC Records (file-93) Load MARCIVE Records (file-99) OCLC server

Table changes tab_loader 17 tab_loader tab_loader is a new ADM library table that defines the desired functionality for loading records into ALEPH. This table defines the policy for creating holding/items/orders/budget transactions. It is used by the following load services: Advanced Generic Vendor Records Loader (file-90) – New service for ALEPH 19.01 Version Load OCLC Records (file-93) Load MARCIVE Records (file-99) OCLC server

Table changes tab_loader_def 18 tab_loader_def tab_loader_def is a new ADM library table that sets the default values for records that are created by the loader services. It defines values for creating items, orders, and budget transactions. It is used by the following load services: Advanced Generic Vendor Records Loader (file-90) – New service for ALEPH 19.01 Version Load OCLC Records (file-93) Load MARCIVE Records (file-99) OCLC server
