European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Jesús Salgado Spectroscopic lines in the VO context Mar 2007, ESAC, Madrid, Spain Spectroscopic lines in the VO context: IVOA model and Access Jesús Salgado Pedro Osuna, Matteo Guainazzi, Isa Barbarisi ESA/VO - European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC)

European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Jesús Salgado Spectroscopic lines in the VO context Mar 2007, ESAC, Madrid, Spain About Spectral Line Access  There is a scientific need to have access to spectral line databases in the VO. Many science cases could make use of this kind of access Pros: Already existing services Cons: Complex scientific issues. No standards.  It was agreed during the interop meeting in Kyoto (2005) to start the necessary work in this line  ESAVO and VOFrance took action. Three activities were started in coordination. Line Data Model document, Simple Line Access Protocol and test implementation (both server –IASD- and client side –VOSpec-)  Atomic and Molecular Lines Data Model v0.5, ML.Dubernet, P.Osuna, M.Guainazzi, J.Salgado, E.Roueff  Simple Line Access Protocol v0.5, J.Salgado, P.Osuna, M.Guainazzi, I.Barbarisi, ML.Dubernet, D.Tody

European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Jesús Salgado Spectroscopic lines in the VO context Mar 2007, ESAC, Madrid, Spain Line Data Model (I)  Intended to support laboratory data, as well as databases of observed lines at any wavelength  Organized around the concept of Line, defined as the result of a transition between two Levels (initial/final) This concept encompasses both bound-bound, and free-bound transitions  Levels are characterized by a series of attributes, organized in classes Species (the properties of the atom/molecule they belong) QuantumState/QuantumNumber (describing the quantum states of the initial/final level)  It shall be possible to describe processes which generate lines, or modify their observational properties in astrophysical plasmas

European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Jesús Salgado Spectroscopic lines in the VO context Mar 2007, ESAC, Madrid, Spain Pre-SLAP era Many on-line spectral line search services extensively used by scientists. All of the services have different form panels.

European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Jesús Salgado Spectroscopic lines in the VO context Mar 2007, ESAC, Madrid, Spain SLAP Overview VOTable, one spectral line per row λ range is compulsory A SIAP-like URL service, would allow an easy implementation for all spectral line providers
