Research as Conversation Where does this conversation happen? o In person o Encyclopedias o Summarize knowledge on a given topic. o Provide context. o Books o Broader in scope than articles. o Good for wider conversation on a particular topic. o Journal and journal articles o Key avenue for conversation in psychology.

Bit more about journals… Type of periodical… magazines and newspapers are also periodicals. Main purpose is to publish articles that present new research in a particular area and provide a forum for critique. Different than magazines & newspapers: Scholarly | Peer- reviewed

How do I find Books & Journals at York? Library catalogue Browse if you know the title Keyword search if you have a topic Find a book for: What is the effect of violence in the media on children? Find a journal broadly dealing with personality psychology.

Finding articles on a specific topic… Use a periodical index (e.g. PsycInfo) What is this? A database for finding articles. How do I find them? Subject Research Guides
