COMPUTERS - a necessary harm-
2
" Who invented the computer? " is not a question with a simple answer. The real answer is that many inventors contributed to the history of computers and that a computer is a complex piece of machinery made up of many parts, each of which can be considered a separate invention.
3
Here are some of the inventors: 1936- Konrad Zuse - First freely programmable computer
4
1942- Howard Aiken & Grace Hopper- The Harvard Mark 1 computer
5
Are you on a computer right now? Then do you know how a computer evolved? The term Computer, originally meant a person capable of performing numerical calculations with the help of a mechanical computing device. Evolution of Computers
6
The evolution of computers started way back in the late 1930s. In the evolution of computers the first generation was characterized by the use of vacuum tubes. These computers were expensive and bulky. They did not support multitasking.
7
In the 1960s, transistor based computers replaced vacuum tubes. Transistors made computers smaller and cheaper. But transistors were responsible for the emission of large amounts of heat from the computer. The use of transistors marked the second generation of computers
8
The use of Integrated circuits was in the third generation of computers. Small transistors placed on silicon chips, called semi conductors. This increased the speed and efficiency of computers. Operating systems were the human interface to computer operations and keyboards and monitors became the input-output devices.
9
Thousands of integrated circuits placed onto a silicon chip made up a microprocessor. Introduction of microprocessors was the hallmark of fourth generation computers. FIRST MICROPROCESSORS IN 1971
10
The fifth generation computers are under development. They are going to be based on principles of artificial intelligence and natural language recognition. Developers are aiming at computers capable of organizing themselves.
11
1991 - World-Wide Web (WWW) was developed by Tim Berners- Lee 1996 - Microsoft failed to recognized the importance of the Web, but finally released the much improved browser Explorer 3.0 in the summer.
13
The most recent type of computer looks like a pen….It may be hard to belive but is true…..
16
The virtual keyboard is already on the market for certain mobile phones
17
Components
18
The system unit is composed of a motherboard, a power source, a microprocessor, memory, hard-disk(s), and a graphic card. These are the core components of a system unit. Apart from these we can find auxiliary components such as a TV tuner, CD/DVD Reading- Writing units, floppy disk unit, etc.
19
There are 3 types of monitors: CRT monitors (cathode-ray tube), LCD monitors (liquid crystal display) and LED monitors (light-emitting diode).
