2 The Texas State Data Center projects that by 2020, Hispanics will make up the majority of Texas’ population, while Anglos will fall to the second- most populous ethnicity (Chart 5). By the year 2040,

3 Hispanics will account for over 50 percent of all Texans, while one-third of the population will be Anglo. Blacks are expected to make up 9.5 percent of Texas’ population in 2040, and other races (not Anglo, black or Hispanic) are expected to grow to almost 6 percent of the population.[6] ( Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas October 2005)

6 the development of library collections to include Spanish- language and Latino oriented materials; the recruitment of more bilingual and bicultural library professionals and support staff; the development of library services and programs that meet the needs of the Latino community; the establishment of a national information and support network among individuals who share our goals; the education of the U.S. Latino population with regard to the availability and types of library services;

9 Dallas International BookFair Workshop: Building Mini Altars Each culture pays tribute to their dead in different ways. In Mexico, members of the family elaborate an altar in honor of deceased relatives, decorating it with papel picado, candles, flowers, photographs of the departed, candy skulls inscribed with the name of the deceased, and a selection of his or her favorite foods and beverages.
