Autobiography (noun) Definition: Writing about a person’s life written by that person David Beckham authored his own autobiography.

Autograph (noun) Definition: The writing of one’s own name The famous baseball player signed my autograph book.

Bibliography (noun) Definition: The written list of all the books used in a report or book Always remember to include a bibliography at the end of your report. This gives credit to the books, web sites, etc. in which you got your information. Works Cited Hinton, S.E., The Outsiders, p. 18-24. Suess, Dr., Green Eggs and Ham, p. 12-14.

Biography (noun) Definition: A book written about a person’s life Albert Goldman wrote a biography on the life of the famous Beatle, John Lennon.

Cartography (noun) Definition: Map making The writing involved in making maps or charts My uncle studied cartography in college and is now a famous mapmaker.

Homograph (noun) Definition: A word written the same way as another word but having a different meaning Examples: Her hair bow was green. The ship’s bow was damaged in the storm. Does that make sense? (verb) Does are female deer.

Paragraph (noun) Definition: A section of writing that has a topic and a concluding sentence In class we use the TSSSR format to organize our paragraphs.

Phonograph (noun) Definition: Record player A device that turns writing on records into sound My grandmother still has her phonograph from the 1800’s.

Photography (noun) Definition: The use of light to record an image using a camera In photography class I learned how to take and develop pictures.

Seismograph Definition: A device that writes down the movements of earth The seismograph measured the earthquake.
