2 The teacher May I introduce myself … Augusto Ninni (industrial policy and energy markets) Times of the lessons: 11-13 on Wednesday and Thursday, 4-6 pm on Wednesday. To start at 11.00? Office hours: on Wednesday, 2:4 pm, on Thursday h 4-6 pm; Where: Padiglione Feroldi, 1° floor; augusto.ninni@unipr.it Please during the lesson do not use mobiles and smartphones and other technological devices to write and to read messages 2

3 Aim of the course To analyze issues at a microeconomic level, mixing industrial and international economics To analyze some issues also at a macroeconomic level (transnational organizations like WTO and current crisis) To utilize a (relatively) non academic, i.e. practical approach 3

4 The course has 7 parts 1. Textbook industrial economics 2. Multinational enterprises and global value chains 3. National microeconomic (= industrial) policies 4. Energy and environmental market 5. Transnational organizations (WTO) 6. Lectures by specialized speakers (Boffa, Spigarelli, Marigo, Lupi-Ferrario) 7. Presentations by the attending students (around 8 groups) 4

Spigarelli (on Chinese FDIs in Europe), N. Marigo (on photovoltaic industry in China), M. Lupi (on compared labour law in different countries); Own presentations by the students 5

7 I will leave you my slides before the lesson, at the beginning of the week (i.e. on Tuesday) The slides will be on my Internet site: however the access requires a password 7

8 The examination: attending people The mark (out of thirty) will be the sum of two parts: A paper written on the day of the examination. Students will meet three questions, about topics discussed during the course, plus one question referred to one of the lections presented by the outside speakers (= total 4 questions, 2 hours). plus The result of the presentation and following discussion (from 0/30 to 5/30) shown during the course The time allowed is 2 hours Pay attention to the English grammar ! Students who feel not to have an acceptable (i.e. at least >10/30) level of knowledge of the exam issues are strongly recommended to retreat before the end of the written examination: otherwise they will be firmly required not to attend the next test 8

9 The examination: non attending people A paper written on the day of the examination. Students will meet four questions on topics treated in the bibliography shown at page 6. The time allowed is 2 hours Pay attention to the English grammar ! 10 How to distinguish attending and non attending students ? It is simple: I will take the signatures of the students during the course, randomly. 10

11 Erasmus students Erasmus students must be treated as the other ones: so please follow the course Pay attention not to take courses which are localized at the Campus ! 11
