2. Step 1: Launch Audacity from your computer by clicking on the START menu, and then clicking on Audacity*. *If you cannot locate it in your list of programs, please use the first PowerPoint presentation to download it.

3. Step 2: Audacity will open. Plug your headset (optional) and microphone (required) into your computer.

4. Step 3: Familiarize yourself with the action buttons located at the top-right corner of the Audacity window. Skip to Start Play Stop RECORDPause Skip to End

5. Step 4: Let’s make a recording: A) Press on RECORD, and speak clearly into your microphone: “The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain”*. B) When you finish, press STOP. * A graph will display that Audacity is recording you. If you see only an unmoving, straight line for the graph, check to make sure that your microphone is properly connected to your computer.

6. Step 5: Let’s hear what you recorded by pressing PLAY. * If you like the recording, move on to the next step. If you don’t, close the recording by clicking on the small X and re- record using step 4.

7. Step 6: Saving your recording. A) Click on File and choose Export as MP3. You will now be asked to located the LAME file you downloaded from the first PowerPoint. Locate it. This will be the only time you have to do this, but DO NOT delete or move the LAME file from its location. B) Name your file. C) You can give additional information about your file. This is optional. You can simply click OK and be done.

8. Step 7: Play your file by locating it and double clicking it.
