Supply Chain Management Ontology Kanchan Karadkar MS in Industrial Engineering December 2, 2013

Definition:  The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) defines supply chain management as encompassing “the planning and management of all activities involved in sourcing and procurement, conversion, and all logistics management activities."  The management of upstream and downstream value-added flows of materials, final goods, and related information among suppliers, company, resellers, and final consumers. Introduction : Supply Chain Management

Information sharing takes place across four important components of supply chain plan, source, make and deliver. Approach:  SCOR Model  Incorporates o Basic Formal Ontology o Relation ontology Purpose:  To identify the key concepts of SCM and define relationship between the same.  The supply chain management ontology has the goal of providing a framework to better formulate, understand, analyze and share a company’s supply chain management model. Supply Chain Management Ontology

SCM Ontology : True Path

Important Terms : Supply Chain Planning

SCM Ontology : Important Terms

Existing Ontologies  Lean Supply Chain Ontology  Supply Chain Management Ontology  Manufacturing Ontology  Logistics Ontology SCM Ontology ─ Doesn’t incorporate plan and source activity ─ Doesn’t have the SCOR model approach ─ Can be incorporated in proposed ontology Related Work

 Understanding a company’s Supply Chain Model To better formulate, understand, analyze and share a company’s supply chain management model  Supplier relationship management (Third Party Engagement) Enabling supplier and manufacture to understand each other  To measure performance metrics Measurement of performance metrics can be done with a goal to aggregate common terms, relate those to the performance attributes.  Kanban Application of SCM Ontology

 Proposed ontology can act as a frame to add terms  Depending on the product manufactured SCM ontology can be customized. Future Scope
