Social Learning (Cognitive) Theory Theory focuses on the importance of observing and modeling the behaviors, attitudes, and emotional reactions of others This theory has been applied extensively to the understanding of aggression and psychological disorders. The theoretical foundation for the technique used in training programs focusing on behavior modeling. The theory is a bridge between behaviorist and cognitive learning theories because it includes attention, memory, and motivation Related to the theories of Vygotsky and Lave – emphasizing the central role of social learning

Social Learning (Cognitive) Theory “Most human behavior is learned observationally through modeling: from observing others, one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action.” (Bandura) 4 Conditions for effective Modeling: 1.Attention – the various factors that increase or decrease the amount of attention paid. 2.Retention – remembering what you paid attention to. 3.Reproduction – recreating the image. 4.Motivation – having a good reason to imitate
