Section 703 Apparatus Inspection
2
Procedures The driver/operator should follow a systematic procedure for inspecting apparatus This ensures that all important items are checked every time the inspection is made.

4
Checklist You will be required to perform an apparatus readiness check on a fire apparatus.
5
Apparatus Maintenance Maintenance – keeping something in a state of usefulness or readiness. Repair – to restore or replace that which has become inoperable.
6
Apparatus Maintenance Engine The most important phases of engine maintenance are regular service inspections.
7
Apparatus Maintenance Daily Maintenance: Includes checking oil level, radiator coolant level, fuel levels, tires (proper inflation, wear, cuts), equipment inventory, checking visible and audible warning signals.
8
Apparatus Maintenance Weekly Maintenance: Bleeding moisture from air brake tanks, removing equipment from apparatus and cleaning, and the starting of all portable engines.
9
Apparatus Maintenance Periodic Maintenance: Includes lubricating all motor, gear, or hand operated appliances according to manufacturer’s specification
10
Apparatus Maintenance Batteries Check voltage, specific gravity & corrosion Check terminals & cables Air Filter Should be serviced by qualified personnel as required.
11
In Cab Inspection Mirrors & seat are properly adjusted All electrical switches are in the off position prior to starting the apparatus Let engine warm up before putting under full load (non emergency responses) Inspect seat belts, cuts & fraying
12
In Cab Inspection Gauges are properly working: Speedometer, RPM gauge Oil Pressure, Fuel Ammeter/Voltmeter Air pressure gauges, Temperature gauges Vacuum & Hydraulic Pressure gauges
13
In Cab Inspection Controls are properly working Electrical Equipment switches Turn signal switches High bean headlight switches Heating & AC switches Radio Controls Audible warning devices Windshield wiper Defroster controls
