3 Objectives Upon completing this workshop, you will demonstrate appropriate conducts when interacting with students in social networking media and take proper measures by referring to Social Networking Media Responsible Use Guideline (SNMRUG).

4 Social Networking Media Responsible Use Guideline Many teachers in our school district have connected with their students on the social networking media. While the educational advantages have been confirmed, there are potential risks teacher should be aware of when using these tools. News stories revealed that the lines between teachers and students can be easily crossed in the virtual world, and the price is steep for all the parties involved. Therefore, the Social Networking Media Responsible Use Guideline (SNMRUG) is created to protect you and your students.

5 Before we start… The best practice is to set up an additional account for your class or student. Private communication posted online can be easily made public.

6 Do you… Set up a group/class page for your students? Interact with students by posting or replying to comments?

7 Group Discussion Do you think it is important to provide positive or encouraging comments to students? Why? What can they do for you and your students?

8 Appropriate Comments What kind of comments can promote student’s learning? What kind of comments can enhance teacher- student relation?

9 Appropriate Comments What kind of comments can promote student’s learning? What kind of comments can enhance teacher- student relation?

10 Inappropriate Comments What kind of comments are considered inappropriate? Don’t comment on student’s appearance or personal life on the social networking media.

11 Group Practice Classify the following five comments into three category- A: Good for Students’ Learning, B: Enhance Teacher-Student Relation, C: Inappropriate. After discussion, write down the answer on the poster.
