3 Course objective Course objective
To make acquainted the graduate students with fundamentals of network management concept, architectures, protocols and related research topics. Prerequisites Computer Networks, C programming..

4 Course description This course provides an introduction to both theoretical and practical aspects of computer network management including architectures, protocols, standards and also current related research topics. The students will have the chance to work with network management tools and also be familiar with current research efforts on network management.

5 Textbooks Textbook: Additional Useful Book
Network Management: Principles and Practice, by Mani Subramanian. Reading, MA: Addison-Wesley, 2000. Additional Useful Book Network Management Fundamentals, by Alexander Clemm, Cisco press, 2006. In addition to the textbook, we will read a number of research papers and articles on the selected topics of network management, network measurement and also Internet traffic monitoring and analysis. The required papers for reading will be posted on the course web site. For networking overview following book is recommended. Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach, Featuring the Internet(4th Edition), by James Kurose and Keith Ross, Addison-Wesley Pub Co, 2008.

6 Grading Grading: There will be Homework, Quizzes, Project, Mid-Term and Final Exams. The grade will be determined by: Homework: 10% Quiz: 10% Projects: 20% Mid-Term Exam: 30% Final Exam: 30% Term research project: Each group of students (2 people groups) will work on a project. The topics of project will be prepared after midterm exam. You should prepare a short proposal and submit it during a week. Each group is required to have a presentation of their work in class.
