2. Learning Intention You will understand the course outline and have an idea of what topics we will be covering this year. You will start to think about your own well-being.

3. Achievement Standards This year we will be covering 4 Achievement Standards, offering a total of 20 credits:

4. 3.3 Explain a range of health practices currently used in New Zealand 5 credits Internally assessed Term 1 Topic – Cancer Individual research

5. 3.1 Analyse a health issue for a particular group within New Zealand society 5 credits Internally assessed Term 2 Topic – A drug type

6. 3.2 Analyse an international health issue 5 credits Externally assessed Term 1/2 Topic – HIV / AIDS Written examination

7. 3.4 Explain a contemporary dilemma or ethical issue in relation to well-being 4 credits Externally assessed Term 3 / 4 Topic – ART (assisted reproductive technology) Written examination

8. 3.5 Examine models of health promotion and their application to a school or community situation 5 credits Externally assessed Only available after consult with teacher Written examination

9. BIO 3.2 Research a contemporary biological issue 3 credits Internally assessed Term 3 / 4 (alongside 3.4) Topic – ART (assisted reproductive technology)

10. Externals For those of you worried about the externals.. Don’t be You will have 2 externals to do in 3 hours We will have plenty of time for revision and plenty of practice at these. To do well in these, you can help yourself by looking at past exam papers, and have prepared an essay for each topic.
