2. Background and History of TANESCO
A vertically integrated Parastatal organization under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Established in 1964 Incorporated under the Companies Ordinance Cap 212 (now Company Act) Directed by the Board of Directors The Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) is responsible for policy formulation and overall sector supervision.

2. Background and History of TANESCO
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) is the sector regulator. TANESCO Core business are Generation, Transmission and Distribution of electricity Sales electricity to the mainland and bulk power supply to the Island of Zanzibar.

Current Status (…) Power Generation Mix
The installed capacity in the main grid is MW. Hydro: MW (46%) and Thermal: MW (54%). Capacity of thermal plants (Gas: 441MW: Fuel Oil: MW) Off-grid stations total capacity is MW Highest grid system demand is MW recorded in December

Current Status (…) . Transmission System : Transmission network comprises of 2,732 km of 220kV lines; 1, km of 132 kV lines; and km of 66 kV lines, totalling 4,866.85km by the end of December Distribution System : Total distribution network (MV lines) is 20,704 km, constituting 15,176 km of 33kV line, 5,528km of 11kV lines; and 40,094 km of low voltage (400 and 230V) lines.

6. Conclusion The current situation shows that there is intensive investment in generation, transmission and distribution of Power in Tanzania which will stabilise Power availability in the Country. The Government of Tanzania still invites potential investors to invest in Electric Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution to curb the future demands.
