1
Polyhedrons Solid - a three-dimensional figure Polyhedra or Polyhedrons - solid with all flat surfaces Faces - the flat surfaces of a solid Edges - line segments where the faces intersect Base(s) - the two congruent and parallel faces - often a different shape then the rest of the faces Lateral Faces - the faces that are not the bases Lateral Edges - segment formed by the intersection of two adjacent lateral faces.
2
Prism - a solid with 2 bases that are polygons Cylinder - a solid with 2 bases that are circles Pyramid - a solid with 1 base Cone - a solid with a base Sphere - a set of points in space that are a given distance from a given point (a ball)
3
SURFACE AREA Of Prisms and Cylinders Surface Area (SA) - total area of all the faces Lateral Area (LA) - total area of just the lateral faces
4
PRISM LA=Ph SA=Ph + 2B P- perimeter of the base, h-height B- area of a base CYLINDER LA=2 rh SA=2 rh + 2 r 2
5
SURFACE AREA Of Pyramids and Cones PYRAMID LA=1/2P SA=1\2P + B - slant height distance from vertex to edge of the base CONE LA= r SA= r + r 2
