2 YOUR SPORT CLUB COUNCIL Mission: To govern and promote both competitive and non-competitive recreational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students who choose to participate in the sport club program.

3 CHRIS JONES: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPORT CLUBS ●Joined the UREC team in 2002 ●Coordinates Sport Club programs throughout the school year as well as overseeing Youth Programs. ●Email: jones4cr@jmu.edujones4cr@jmu.edu

4 MC SOWDER: GRADUATE ASSISTANT ●Joined the UREC team in 2014 ●Pursuing a graduate degree in Campus Recreation Leadership and is expected to graduate in May 2016 ●Email: sowdermc@jmu.edu

6 OUR NEW OFFICE LOCATION ●Student Leadership Office, 3rd Floor of UREC ●Near your Sport Club Mailbox MAILBOXES ●Your Club Mailbox is: ○James Madison University Recreation ■℅ Club’s Name ■MSC 3901 ■Harrisonburg, VA 22807 ●Make a conscious effort to check your mailbox regularly ●Our Mailbox: ■Located within your own SC Mailbox ■All forms should be turned into an SCC member’s mailbox, not to your own mailbox

7 IMPORTANT DATES  Student Org Night:  Friday, September 4 th from 7 – 9pm at the Upper Turf  Fall in Love with Harrisonburg:  Saturday, October 10 th from 8 – 12 pm  Individual Executive Board Training  Second or third week of school  Be on the look out for an email for more details. ● Upcoming Forms: ○Informed Consent: Immediately after try-outs ○Participation Forms: 20th of each month ○7 Charges & Manual Confirmation: September 20th ○Team Roster & Constitution: September 27th

8 PRESIDENT’S MEETINGS  When?  1 st Monday of each month at 6 – 7pm  For the upcoming semester:  October 5 th  November 2 nd  What?  Talk about upcoming sport club events  Supportive Funds  YOUR Club Events  Beneficial Lessons  Why?  Inform you of upcoming dates and deadlines  Keep up-to-date with the sport club community  Earn your attendance points!

9 EVENT MANAGEMENT: NUTS AND BOLTS  At least 2 members from your team should be certified  Can be completed via online training  Allows you to access EMS to browse for campus availability  Games and any additional events should be scheduled through EMS http://info.jmu.edu/nutsandbolts/

11 POINTS SYSTEM  Points = Money!  You can receive points for:  Attendance at training, meetings, and other required events  Handing in your paperwork by the deadline  2 points awarded for forms turned in on time  1 point awarded for forms turned in within 48 hours of deadline  Attending other club team’s events  Revision of the constitution: 10 points  Points received this year will contribute to your team’s UREC account for NEXT year

12 COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIREMENTS  Require 5 hours per member each year  Points will be lost for NOT doing community service  Forms are due within a week of the event  Turn in to the SCC Secretary

13 SPORT CLUB OF THE MONTH  What do we take into consideration?  Community Service  Fundraising  Overall team participation  How will you benefit?  An additional $50 in your UREC Bank Account  Additional marketing for your club throughout UREC  Cover photo on the JMU Sport Club Facebook Page

22 SUPPORTIVE FUNDS  Form to request found under JMU Sport Club Website under “Forms”  Must include a detailed budget of your team’s personal account  Include explanation on why funds are necessary for your team  Available to request any time until the end of February  What can these funds do for me?  Provide additional support for your team beyond your UREC account  Expand team’s opportunities to travel and compete

23 UREC BANK ACCOUNT  Money earned through points from your PREVIOUS year  Can include supportive funds, sport club of the month, sport club of the year  Account WILL pay for:  Travel Expenses  Tournament Fees  Hotels  Uniforms ●Account WILL NOT pay for: ○Food ○Gas ○Alcohol ○Fundraising expenses ○Items costing < $50 ○Items not support club’s mission

25 EXPECTATIONS OF YOUR EXEC BOARD President Oversees Exec board Main contact between SCC & Sport Club team Seeks growth opportunities for their respective club Delegating Vice President Send weekend results & story topics to SCC VP Checks in & out equipment Maintains the quality of the equipment Along with the President, maintains club’s personal account Treasurer Maintain Club’s personal account (with the President) Maintain member’s dues Maintain club’s budget Turns in TA forms 2 weeks before travel Secretary Records Practice Attendance Turns in participation numbers each month Keeps meeting minutes
