Setting up a Node l Initial contact – usually a research contact l Visit by Faculty/School representative l Production of Rationale Document - criteria l Approval from Faculty/School l Institutional visit – criteria l Approval by Academic Development Committee l Memo of Agreement signed l Recruitment l Monitoring

Essential features of Nodes l Node is part of a Plymouth Research Centre l Node Coordinators l one at the Node and one at Plymouth l Each student has 2 or 3 supervisors l At least 1 in Plymouth (1 at node or coordinator) l Students can be resident at Node or distant from Node l Supervisors meet with student regularly l Face to face contact and virtual (email, Skype) l Annual Symposium all students must attend

Core features of all students studying for a PhD at Plymouth l All students follow the guidance of the Logbook and the Research Degrees Handbook l All students must undergo some training in research specific skills and generic personal skills l The thesis must be written in English l The examination follows the UK model l private defence of the thesis
