3. Imagine the result Just How Will I Go About Keeping Up With All of These Time Limitations Using RODS? Most Record of Duty Status (RODS) books and form sets have a form that allows you to compute a monthly summary. The following is an example of computing time when using the 70-Hour Rule: Explanations are on the next slide !

4. Imagine the result How it Works... 1. Enter the number of working hours (driving and on duty) for each of the previous 7 days of the preceding month under the “Hours Worked Today” column. 2. Total the number of hours worked over the last 7 days and write the value in the first space in column “A.” 3. Subtract the value in Column “A” from 70 hours to obtain the number of hours available to work on the next day and enter that value in Column “B”. 4. At the end of the next day, enter number of hours worked that day in row “1.” Total the number of hours for the day plus the 6 previous days and place in Column “A.” Subtract that value from 70 and place the remainder in Column “B”. Finally, add the hours for that day plus the previous 7 days and place the total in Column “C”. 5. Initial date corrections (ARCADIS policy) Don’t worry, they always have instructions on the form!

You could use the ARCADIS Time Record Form Pack  The automated way of keeping up with the monthly summary sheet  You must print and carry up to date information with you when using RODS!  May be a better option if you are only operating under RODS for 1 day More on this option in a later module You still need to have an fundamental understanding of how the computations work, no matter what method is used.

ARCADIS Drivers operating CMVs are required to prepare and maintain RODS for their activities, unless using an exemption discussed later - no skipping ahead! Each Driver must prepare a daily log, in duplicate, containing the following: The graph grid with the remarks section Date Total miles driven that day Truck and trailer numbers Name of the carrier Carrier’s main office address Driver’s signature/certification 24 hour period (usually midnight to midnight but can have any start time) Name of co-driver, if applicable Total hours for each defined activity Shipping document number or name of shipper and commodity, if applicable

Most entries must be in the driver’s own handwriting and entries must be legible - Carrier’s Name and address may be pre-printed - Neatness is important, use a ruler when available RODS must be kept current to end of last change of duty status Use the time zone for the driver’s assigned office - Military time may be used

Any method of correction is permissible if a mistake is made, including use of White Out, however, the method used must not invalidate the driver’s certification of accuracy Driver must retain the previous 7 days of original or duplicate copy logs while driving Driver must turn original copy or approved copy of logs in within 13 days to their assigned work location

Imagine the result Let’s Do a RODS Scenario on September 4, 2008 Sam arrived at work at 8:00 a.m. and prepared for the trip to Milan, TN in the Knoxville office for 2 hours (pre-trip inspections, securing and reels, etc.). At 10:00 a.m., Sam drove this remediation trailer from Knoxville, TN towards Milan, TN. - Total driving distance 315 miles. - Crossed from Eastern to Central time zone. Sam stopped in Lebanon, TN to eat lunch and buy gas from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. EST. At 1:00 p.m. he drove 167 miles to Milan where he arrived at 4:00 p.m. EST. 11. Imagine the result Tips for RODS Completion Listen to a summary of tips for RODS completion 1. Use the address of the ARCADIS Corporate office. City and State are all that is required. The State may be abbreviated. 2. Draw the line in the middle of the space provided so there will not be any confusion about which activity was performed. 3. Total hours for each activity at the end of the graph. If they do not total 24 hours, there is a mistake somewhere. 4. Non-Driving work activities should have the City and State listed where the work was performed. For stops less than 15 minutes in duration, a line may be drawn at the time period where the stop occurred. Simply indicate city, state and duration of stop (for example, 6 min.).
