2 Born February 9, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York He was the only boy Had 3 sisters Began drawing at age 3 Sold his first crayon drawing to his Grandma for a penny.

3 In Kindergarten, his teacher was impressed that his drawings rivaled those of a ten year old. By age 8, his parents enrolled him in the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts. His teacher was Michael Falanga, an award winning Italian artist.

4 At age 16, he published his first comic story, “the Snowman”. His teacher died suddenly the same year and the school closed. He started looking for work and later turned down Walt Disney.

5 He worked for several comic book companies such as EC Comics, National Comics, fantasy book company Avon and several others. Some of his works include John Wayne Comics, Buck Rogers, Famous Funnies and Ghost Rider. George Lucas claimed Frazetta’s Buck Rogers inspired him for Star Wars.

6 Known as a playboy for several years. met 17-year-old Eleanor Kelly when he was 24. He felt that she was loyal and intelligent. After 4 years of dating, they were married on November 17, 1956.

7 Worked with Al Capp on Li’l Abner comic strip and Dan Barry’s Flash Gordon. Produced his own; Johnny Comet Loved baseball, but turned down an offer to play baseball for the New York Giants. Worked with Harvey Kurtzman on Little Annie Fanny for Playboy magazine. Did many movie posters and paperback book covers. Most common was his artwork for “Conan the Adventurer” by Robert E. Howard and L. Sprague de Camp. And Death Dealer series. Conan series sold 10 million copies; the 60’s equivalent of Harry Potter in popularity.

17 In 1983, he was a large part of creating an animated movie; “Fire and Ice”. But was a disappointment as the technology was not up to par with Star Wars. Frank had many health problems such as an untreated thyroid condition and several strokes that impaired his ability to paint. He was persistent to continue so he began painting left handed. His failing health caused much dispute among his children over his art collection which was worth $20-50 million. In 2003, a documentary film was released called “Painting with Fire”. His wife, Ellie, died in July of 2009. After suffering a severe stroke, Frank Frazetta died May 10, 2010 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was survived by 2 sons, Alfonso and William; and 2 daughters, Heidi and Holly. He had 11 grandchildren.
