4 Characteristics of Asian Society Education in Asian society is a path to success: ●Parental demands ●Fear of failure ●Competition and Pride ●Determines rest of your life “Study with a purpose”

6 Some Common Expectations: -School is easy for them, especially math and science. -They will be doctors or scientists. -Docile and uncomplaining. -Independent of needing help. -Spiritually enlightened. http://cmhc.utexas.edu/modelminority.html

7 Instructional Strategies -Allow and assist students in exploring diverse career opportunities. -Have the same high expectations for all students. -Focus on reaching the whole child, their education is important but they also need emotional and social support. -Foster positive relationships with the students’ parents and support group in order to understand the expectations at home.
