Bloodborne Pathogens Found in blood and body fluids Must get inside your body to infect you HIV, HBV, HCV May be carried without symptoms

Routes of Infection Through sexual contact Sharing needles to inject drugs Through cuts or breaks in skin Eyes, nose or mouth

PPE All required items are in Exposure Plan Make sure gloves fit correctly and are in good condition Bandage cuts under gloves Replace gloves if damaged

After Using Gloves Never reuse disposable gloves Correctly remove gloves Wash hands after removal

Handwashing Wash thoroughly, rinse Shake off excess water Pat dry with paper towel If no sink, use antiseptic hand cleaner or towelettes –Wash in sink as soon as possible

Housekeeping Rules Use heavy-duty utility gloves and apron Clean with appropriate materials Disinfect cleaning equipment when finished Use dustpan to pick up broken glass Contaminated waste and soiled clothing in sealed, leak-proof bag

If Exposed Report it immediately to supervisor Receive confidential medical examination and blood tests Receive follow-up counseling
