HOW TO PRACTICE YOUR PREP CHOIR MUSIC
2
Gather materials Folder Music Pencil Computer, tablet, smartphone
3
Log on the PCC Website: pcchorus.org
4
Click on the “Members” tab (find it in the far upper right corner of the home page) Enter the password: pccSings (note upper case S)
5
Click the “My Choir” tab (along the top of the page) and then select “Prep”. This will take you to the Prep Choir page where you can find important information such as: Weekly practice assignments Practice tracks (recordings of our songs to listen to and sing along with) Other timely information
6
Read the Weekly Practice Assignment and make note of what you are responsible to learn before the next rehearsal.
7
Click on the practice track (recording) of the first song you are supposed to practice. Be sure to choose the correct track (Mrs. Huyett’ side or Mrs. Merrill’s side).
8
LISTEN first! You must learn the melody by listening before you start to sing! FOLLOW along in your music. Read the words as you are listening. Find places in the music that seem difficult to you and listen to those places repeatedly. SING along with the recording while reading your music. Keep in mind as many of the things Mrs. Huyett talked about during rehearsal as you can. (Vowel shape, consonants, phrases – where to take a breath, etc.)
9
Focus – just listening or just singing isn’t good practice. Good practice takes thinking! After several weeks – try to sing your parts without the practice tracks. Then go back and sing with them again. Eventually, you will be asked to memorize the music. This won’t be hard if you’ve been practicing regularly every week.
10
FINALLY – record your practice time everyday and be sure to turn your practice record in to the key parents as you arrive to rehearsal each week!
