MCLARY MANAGEMENT Challenges “I believe that one of the most important things we as industry leaders must do is to ask ourselves: “What business are we in?” For example, private passenger railroads like the Pennsylvania and New York Central, among the most powerful business a century ago, are now extinct. Why? Because they failed to adapt. They had what I call “marketing myopia.” They viewed themselves as being in the railroad business instead of the people business.
