Responses to Operations Questions Mailing Systems Technology 2009 Wage & Operations Survey Results Mailing Systems Technology conducted its annual survey in the summer of 2009. Subscribers were notified through email, the magazine, e-newsletter and the website about taking the survey. Overall, over 700 subscribers visited the survey 137 were not eligible to take the survey 355, who were eligible, took the survey These numbers are lower than in years past; however, the survey itself reveals that mail managers have less time because of the increasing demands on their time. With fewer numbers of survey respondents, we are not able to provide the usual deep drill down of statistics that we normally do. Operations Questions: When asked what other green initiatives were being done, here are some interesting responses Basic recycling of all products...paper, cardboard, electronics, plastic and metal Energy usage for new equipment Changing light bulbs, better HVAC controls, propane vehicles Recycling of "overs" (not consigning to a dumpster) Returning printer's boxes to the printer E-statements Encourage customers to accept mail electronically Default duplexing at copiers—less paper used FSC certification Low VOC inks Aqueous coating less varnish More efficient equipment Digital presses! Less waste in setup than traditional equipment, especially when you eliminate mailing as a separate step Offset presses that use soy ink in most cases Vegetable based inks, reduced chemical usage Recycling junk mail Lights and AC/heater units shut off in areas where no one is Education Solar heat Not buying paper clips and binder clips Using green certified vendors Producing our own energy through a Cogeneration Plant which sells back energy to the town
