Teamwork June 2009 4 Empathy Empathy is the ability to imagine yourself in another person’s situation Examples of showing empathy include: –Offering to help a new employee learn his or her way around. –Helping a fellow CNA who has an extra heavy workload. –Asking a new CNA to join your group at break time.

Teamwork June 2009 5 The right attitude Your team will function better if all team members: Leave their personal problems at the door when they arrive at work. Expect the best from each other. Resolve small conflicts before they grow into larger ones. Try to act cheerful, even when feeling down. Smiling can help to lift your spirits!

Teamwork June 2009 6 Mutual respect Teams that have mutual respect: Honor the rights and dignity of others – even when they don’t agree. Never enjoy putting each other down. Treat each other with courtesy at all times. Face the tough times together. Celebrate each other’s successes.

Team members contribute their unique talents and strengths. The team’s combined strengths can make up for individual weaknesses. Each team member is responsible for helping to create a great team. Learning how to deal with conflict will strengthen your team.
