Mozambique Mozambique is on the coast of southeastern Africa, borders the Mozambique channel Mozambique has a population of about 16.9 million President Joaquim Alberto Chissano is the president of Mozambique Official language is Portugese There are about 13 different languages spoken in Mozambique There are about 11 different ethnic groups in Mozambique Mozambique had an on-going civil war until 1990 Mozambique is known for being one of the poorest countries in the world

Causes of water quality issue Some of the water from industrial, municipal, and mining wastewater is only partially treated. Run off from live stock and poultry operations contribute to bad water quality and can cause diseases to be found in the water Cities waste flows straight into their own lakes They don’t have the money or resources to upgrade their sewage or water treatments Theres pollution from domestic and industrial residues and from ship traffic
4
Poor water effect on the population You can catch diseases from drinking water People are dying because of the lack of clean drinking water The pollution leads to fish deaths which is a source of food for the population Water is unsafe for people to swim in
5
What is being done to resolve the water issue The UN helps Mozambique and other countries in africa through UNICEF, which helps build clean water pumps in villages and pays for the people that are the neediest and cant even afford to pay for the pump. The plan in place for Mozambique is to continue to try to raise enough money to have an accessible clean water pump for everyone and to be able to improve water treatment and sewage systems I think that eventually the future for this country will improve when it comes to clean water, eventually the rate of people with out drinking water will go down and there will be more water pumps. But for now and for a while I think Mozambiques water situation will stay the same.

How I would help solve this issue To solve the water issue in Mozambique I would try to raise enough money so that the sewage and water treatment systems were up to date and effective and I would also try to create laws prohibiting what kind of stuff companys can dump into the water sources and where poultry and livestock operations were located so that the dangerous run off wouldn’t run into the water. I would also try to raise enough money to have a clean water pump in every village and be able to pay for the people that cant even afford water.
