An Update Wednesday, April 11, 2012 9:00 am -3:30 pm The Log Cabin 500 Easthampton Road Holyoke, MA 01040 Denise Polit, PhD Dr. Denise Polit is an American researcher who is recognized world- wide as a leading authority on nursing research. Although Dr. Polit is not a nurse, her contribution to nursing science was recognized by Sigma Theta Tau International, which gave her honorary membership in 2009, and by the American Academy of Nurses who awarded her honorary membership in 2010. Dr. Polit’s involvement with nursing spans 36 years, and began when she was an Instructor at the Boston College School of Nursing in 1976. The 9 th edition of her graduate book, Nursing Research: Generating and Assessing Evidence for Nursing Practice (2012) recently won an American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award. Dr. Polit, earned a Ph.D. from Boston College in Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation, and enjoys a worldwide reputation for her teaching and methodological expertise. Program Objectives At the end of the program the participant will be able to: Discuss the issue of gender bias in health care research, and the history of changes at NIH relating to such bias Review and update findings from research on the existence of gender bias in studies published in nursing journals.
