♡ Hydroelectric Power ♡ Allyson Rosell, Danielle Pierre
2
How is this energy created? The production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling or flowing water
3
Where does it come from? The potential energy of dammed water driving a water turbine and generator
4
How do we capture/control this energy? By using gravitational force.
5
What technology do we currently use to make it work? Dams is a source of technology that we use mostly.
6
What are start-up costs with using this form of energy? Depending on the nominal power of the unit and the unit model, the majority of the power producers consider start-ups in their planning; there is a need for planning a software which considers start-up costs of hydro units
7
What are the recurring costs of this form of this energy? Hydroelectric power is very inexpensive relative to the costs of other energy sources in the area of which is available, it costs 3 times less than national average
8
How is this energy being used now? About 7% of the energy produced in the U.S is by way of hydroelectric plants. Worldwide is about 19%
9
Is this energy being used in our area? - Yes, it is produced with very little hydroelectric power.
10
Where is this energy being used now? This is an example of a Run over the River Dam.
11
Where is this energy being used now? This is how the run of the river dam works.
12
Where is this energy being used now? This is an example of a tidal power station. They collect their energy from the waves pulling down.
13
Where is this energy being used now? Example of a pumped storage.
14
Where is this energy being used now? What the pumped storage does.
15
What are the benefits of this energy? 1.Once a dam is constructed, electricity can be produced at a constant rate. 2.If electricity is not needed, the sluice gates can be shut 3.Dams are designed to last many decades 4.The build up of water in the lake means that energy can be stored till needed, when the water is released to produce electricity. 5.The lakes water can be used for irrigation purposes.
16
What are drawbacks of this type of energy? 1.Dams are extremely expensive to build and must be built to a very high standard. 2.The flooding of large areas of land means that natural environment is destroyed. 3.The high of dam construction means that they must operate for many decades to become profitable
17
Are there any concerns of this type of energy? No sir.
